DEVCOM CBC Partners with the University of Hawaii to Enhance Bioprinting and Advanced Manufacturing

— The U.S. Army DEVCOM Chemical Biological Center (CBC)and the University of Hawaii (UH) System are collaborating under a CRADA and two Joint Work Statements (JWS) to enhance warfighter survivability and effectiveness. Their initiatives focus on leveraging biomaterials and advanced manufacturing, including projects like organ-on-a-chip scientific tools and broader manufacturing and repair capabilities to support USINDOPACOM operations in Hawaii.

Army Scientists Develop New Battery Treatment Process

— U.S. Army scientists have developed a new surface treatment that could lead to more efficient and longer-lasting batteries for military applications. The team at the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Army Research Laboratory, known as DEVCOM ARL, created a process that treats multivalent metal electrodes with an acidic solution, creating an ultra-thin protective layer that improves overall battery performance

Army licenses biological sampling tool to company to prevent the spread of illnesses from kitchens, mess halls

— The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Soldier Center, located in Natick, MA, recently granted a non-exclusive commercial patent license to SafetySpect, Inc., a dual-use biomedtech/agtech company headquartered in Grand Forks, ND. The license is in furtherance of the commercialization of a handheld tool designed to remove biological matter from surfaces and store it for subsequent analysis, to support food safety and surface sanitation efforts.

DEVCOM Soldier Center’s hydration flow meter helps prevent dehydration in Soldiers
May 29, 2024
— Researchers at the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Soldier Center, or DEVCOM SC, have invented a personal flow meter to measure water consumption. The invention, which has been licensed to an industry partner, will serve to help prevent dehydration in the nation’s warfighters. Preventing dehydration is important since it can impact Soldier health and performance. Monitoring and understanding hydration status of warfighters can help prevent heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
